What I Spent at Cheer Showcase: Budgeting for Cheer Families
Share
Hi cheer fam!
With competition season just a few weeks away, things are heating up at our gym! The teams are polishing routines, and we're all eagerly awaiting the arrival of this season’s new uniforms. Our gym went with a new vendor this year, and I was happy to see they offered customization options, like adding extra length to the shorts (which Laurel really needs, thanks to her long legs!). Some seasons, our team has had to compete in practice wear for the first event, so we’re crossing our fingers that the new gear arrives on time. 🤞
One of the highlights of this pre-competition period is always our gym's annual Cheer Showcase. It’s a big event where every team performs their full routine in front of all of the other athletes and families. This year, due to the size of our program (over 250 athletes!), the Showcase was held at a high school gymnasium instead of in-house.
This year’s Showcase was extra special because my parents, who live out of state, came to watch! After six years of cheering Laurel on from afar through photos and videos, they finally got to see her perform live. It was such a proud moment to share with them. They even got to see the Worlds teams in action for the first time—I had a lot of fun watching their amazement as they saw those athletes’ incredible skill level up close!
Since the Showcase required renting space, there was an admission fee for spectators. Laurel also grabbed some lunch at the Booster Club snack bar (thank you, Chick-fil-A sandwich, for keeping Laurel fueled and focused).
Cheer Showcase Expenses:
- Admission for 3 adults: $45 ($15 per person)
- Lunch for Laurel: $7
Grand total: $52
Managing these extra costs is part of every cheer season, and it’s so helpful to plan ahead. That’s one reason why I started My Cheer Budget—to make tracking and budgeting for cheer expenses easier for families.
