What I Spent on My Daughter’s Cheer in September: A Cheer Mom Reality Check

If you're a fellow all star cheer parent, you know the drill—competition season is coming, and the expenses are rolling in. Between fees, practices, and those *very necessary* lunches to keep our cheerleaders fueled, it’s no surprise that cheer costs can stack up fast. So, here’s a peek into what I spent on my daughter Laurel's cheer in September. (Spoiler alert: It adds up, but it’s all for the love of cheer!)

1. Competition Fees: $285
Yep, the first competition is on the horizon, and that means the all-important competition fee. Our gym divides the season's fees into equal monthly installments, which come in at $285 per month. That’s the price of admission for her to hit the mat, do what she loves, and maybe bring home some shiny hardware. Worth it? Absolutely. But also… ouch.

2. Lunch for Choreography Days: $29
Choreography days are long. Like, really long. So naturally, grabbing lunch is a must. Between the two days, I spent $29 keeping Laurel fed while she worked through hours of routine-perfecting magic. You can’t exactly stunt on an empty stomach, right?

3. Private Lesson: $70
Private tumbling lessons are the key to mastering those must-have skills for competition. This month, Laurel did one 1-hour private lesson which set me back $70. While she did privates nearly every week over the summer, we are going to pause the privates starting in October. Her team will start group tumbling sessions once a week, and I want to maintain some balance for her (and the rest of our family). Laurel has gained SO MUCH confidence in her tumbling since June, and watching her nail a tricky pass makes every dollar worth it.

**Total Cheer Costs for September: $384**
At the end of the month, my grand total for cheer expenses came to $384. Cheerleading is definitely not the cheapest sport, but seeing my daughter’s face light up every time she hits a new skill or walks off that mat with confidence? Priceless. (I’ll just be brewing my coffee at home for a bit!)
